Lenny Gerard

Biography

Lenny Gerard is a Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator whose practice spans Polaroid photography, mixed media, painting, and assemblage, exploring imperfection and transformation through cut photographs, paint, stitching, and found objects. He presents his Barbie Vanity series in this exhibition.

A photography alumnus of Parsons School of Design in New York, Lenny built a career as a creative producer and art director for clients including Netflix, Polaroid, Universal Music Group, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His work has appeared in more than 40 exhibitions, including presentations at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and internationally in Mexico, and a work from his Day vs. NightPolaroid series is held in LACMA’s permanent collection.

Following a serious accident in 2022, three spinal surgeries, and a year of extensive IV medications, Lenny relearned how to walk three times—an experience that redirected his focus toward his art and teaching. For three years, he has volunteered at the Braille Institute, teaching printmaking and abstract expressionism to blind and low-vision artists.

His work has earned grants from the Center for Cultural Innovation, Culver City Arts Foundation, and Doan Foundation, alongside recognition from the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego for his contributions to arts education and community engagement. In 2026, he curated an exhibition featuring more than 45 blind and visually impaired artists.
